Student Leadership

The encouragement and development of student leadership forms an important focus at Balgowlah Boys’.

Prefects

Ten boys from Year 12 make up the prefect body including a school captain and vice captain. Prefects regularly meet with the Principal and perform numerous roles over the course of the year and at school functions.

Student Representative Council

Students from each Year are elected onto the SRC to represent the student body. They meet as a group during roll call each day and are regularly called upon to provide feedback on issues affecting the school.

Alternative Dispute Resolution Mediators

Students are trained as mediators to help resolve lower level disputes between other students. Balgowlah Boys’ pioneered this process in schools and has won several awards.

Year 11 Mentors

All Year 11 students are trained as mentors for Year 7 students. They meet regularly in groups and provide support and a friendly face in the senior school.

Peer Reading Program

Selected students are trained to assist targeted boys in a peer reading program to improve literacy skills.

Student Representative Council

The Balgowlah Boys Campus Student Representative Council consists of four elected members from each year group (Yrs 7-12 ) and is coordinated by a member of the teaching staff.

The group has their own roll class which gives them the opportunity to meet, plan and discuss issues on a daily basis.

The SRC coordinates and organizes social events, promotes fundraisers for selected charities, presents on school assemblies and assists in the delivery of key events across the school calendar including orientation day for new Year 7 students.

They also play an important role in contributing ideas and input into new and revised school policies, school planning and improvement.

The SRC actively promotes the school’s alternative dispute resolution process and a number of the group are trained mediators.

The SRC not only provides a voice for the student body but also gives each member a genuine opportunity to develop key leadership skills.
