Northern Beaches Secondary College students in Years 9 to 12 can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme as an across campus activity.
Bronze Qualifying 2009 Update
Adventurous journeys are being held on the third and fourth weekends of Term Four. The first weekend,14th and 15th November, will be followed, 21st & 22nd November. Students from Manly Selective, Mackellar, Balgowlah and Cromer Campuses will participate in a Pack and paddle camp. Both camps are at Somerset Outdoor Learning Centre Colo. 2009 will see over 120 students from across the College take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Students nominate goals and challenges in four areas: Sport, Skill, Community Service and Adventurous Journeys and document their regular participation in these chosen areas over a period of three to six months.
Students this year will travel for their expeditions to the Blue Mountains, Royal National Park and Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is about setting goals. These goals are realised with persistence, determination and resilience and will see the student become better prepared for life’s challenges in the future.
The co-ordinator, Hugh Wood, will be promoting this program at all campuses and can be contacted at the College Administration Centre.
